William Waterkotte

Eastern District Vice President

As Vice President for the Eastern District of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (Eastern District), William R. Waterkotte represents more than 91,000 union carpenters across 14 states and Washington, D.C. The Eastern District comprises three regional councils: the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, the New York City District Council of Carpenters, and the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, and includes 31 training centers and 56 local unions. The Eastern District is part of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC), one of North America’s largest building trades unions, with over a half-million members. 

Bill fosters collaboration and communication among regional councils to benefit our membership and provide the necessary tools and resources for member service and training. 

Since Bill first joined the UBC in 1978, he has actively worked for the betterment of the union and its members. Throughout his decades as a carpenter, Bill has held various positions at the local, council, and regional levels, including Business Agent, Organizing Director, Assistant Executive Secretary-Treasurer, and Executive Secretary-Treasurer. He remains an active member of his local union and has been a delegate for Local 432 for more than four decades.  

Bill is also President of the Carpenters Combined Funds, Inc., Trustee of the Greater Pennsylvania’s Carpenters Pension Fund, and Trustee of the KML Carpenters Apprenticeship and Training Fund.  

Bill is a graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh, an organization in Southwestern Pennsylvania dedicated to developing diverse civic leaders to serve the region. To improve the homes and lives of homeowners in need, he worked with the Master Builders' Association of Western Pennsylvania to found the non-profit Rebuilding Together-Pittsburgh and is President Emeritus of the organization. 

 

Bill is a proud fourth-generation carpenter. He is a graduate of the Carpenters Joint Apprenticeship Training Program. Bill lives in Whitehall, a suburb of Pittsburgh. He has three daughters and three

grandchildren.
